What is Play-Based Curriculum?

Did you know that children learn best while actively engaged in play?

Play is how preschoolers make sense of the world around them. It is pleasurable and self-motivated.

Did you know that your children are learning from their play? Learning is interactive and primarily takes place through children’s play and exploration.

So what does it mean when a child is in a play-based curriculum?

It means that the teacher lets the children bring their own ideas into the learning process. The child is an active participant in the classroom. The teacher offers different centers with activities the children can do and lets the children decide which center they would like to play at.

Wisdom Gym is a play-based preschool that offers Art, Blocks, Library, Dramatic Play, Math, Science, Sensory and Writing centers. Each day the children have different items and activities set out at each station. Circle time is also included in our program. Each week we have a different letter that we “play” too from Zoo-phonics, we have our finger plays and songs, and read two books.  Our classroom is based on different themes during the year, themes that are of interest to the children.

Wisdom Gym also brings movement into our play-based curriculum. The children will use the brain connection to connect between mind and body with movement.
